Notre Dame has been given a Bronze award for our work to make sure students don’t miss out on an education because they are young carers.

The Young Carers in Schools programme helps primary and secondary schools improve outcomes for young carers and celebrates good practice through the Young Carers in Schools Award. Notre Dame’s SENDCO Miss Rogers says ‘we are really proud of our Young Carers and the resilience they have in all aspects of their lives, and enjoy all of the work we do as a team to support them.’ While Young Carer group leaders Mrs Brady and Mrs Keats add ‘we constantly work to support our Young Carers, and are thrilled that the hard work of our group has been acknowledged with this award.’

Young carer Tamzin, 13, has attended the group since starting Notre Dame two years ago and explains; ‘the Young Carers group helps me so much because it gives me time to be myself and when I am there, I do not have to worry about everything that I have to do at home. I feel very supported, have made lots of new friends and enjoy the trips that we go on. I particularly enjoyed going to the theatre to watch the Pantomime and to TenPin bowling, where we met James Arthur.’

Congratulations to all of our Young Carers Team!
