Dear Parents, Carers and students of Notre Dame and St Boniface

Changes to the start of term, following Government advice

I am writing briefly to update you all on how our school opening plans have changed for next week following yesterday’s announcement by the Secretary of State for Education.

Our schools will move to online education only for next week, beginning Monday 4th January, for all Year groups.  We will deliver lessons at the time of the usual school timetable, but all will be through remote access via Google classroom.  Year 11 and 13 students are now also required to stay at home next week and we will provide online lessons for them as a priority.  Year 11 mock exams at Notre Dame have been postponed by one week and Mrs Clancy has written separately to that Year group with details and a new exam timetable.

All students in Years 11 and 13 will return to face to face education in school on Monday 11th January.  All other Year groups will receive online education during that week and should not come to school until Monday 18th January.

Public exams for some Year 10 and 12 students at Notre Dame will still continue as planned on Thursday 7th January (Year 10 Child Development), Friday 8th January (Year 12 Health and Social Care) and Monday 11th January (Year 10 BTEC Sport). Exam candidates should arrive at Notre Dame one hour before their exam and gather in the Sunflower Cafe for a pre-exam revision session.

Vulnerable children and the children of critical workers may attend school if they wish to next week and during the week beginning 11th January and they will be supervised in the SEND base and the IT suites, where they will access the same online provision being offered to all students at home.

All staff and all students who attend school in person during the next 2 weeks will be strongly encouraged to take the lateral flow test for Coronavirus when they are in school for the protection of the whole school community.  We expect a delivery of tests on Monday morning and some staff are being trained to administer the tests during Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Next week we will send out consent forms for all under 16 students so that we can test all students promptly on their staggered return to school.

We hope you will understand these very last minute changes to our plans for the next two weeks of education delivery.  We do hope you have had a restful holiday, a Blessed Christmas and we wish you all a very Happy New Year.

With kind regards

Mrs White
Headteacher
