At Notre Dame we will always do our utmost to keep the school open whatever the weather.
However, there are certain times when this may not be possible. We may not have enough staff in school to look after the children, we may not be able to run the canteen, we may have problems with water or heating or there may be real health and safety concerns regarding travel.
If the school has to close because of severe weather all students will be sent an email to this effect. We will put this information on our website and update it regularly. We will also use Heart FM radio to broadcast details.
Late starts and early closes may be used to help maximise the opportunity to teach students. In all cases we will try to give parents as much warning as possible of any changes to our normal routine.
We do appreciate the distance students from Devon and Cornwall have to travel and that weather conditions may be different at home. If school is open then we leave the decision about whether to travel to parents of those children.
There will be some work set by departments available on the Notre Dame VLE.
In the event of adverse weather on an exam day
As all January exams are national papers, all exams will go ahead as planned. If it safe for you to travel to school, exams will run as normal.
If the school has to be closed due to the weather, staff will be on site to ensure any student who makes it into school can still take their exam.
If you are unable to make it to school for an exam due to the weather it is vital that you telephone the school and leave a message at MAIN RECEPTION, or email exams@notredame.plymouth.sch.uk notifying us that you are unable to attend. Similarly, if you call and notify us that you will be attending the exam and then get stuck on-route, please call so that we know where you are.
